The Ria Formosa is one of the most beautiful and important wetlands in Portugal. It is a protected area of considerable interest and with very special biodiversity, birdlife in particular, partly due to the abundance of habitats found here. This means it is a great place to see very interesting aquatic birds and waders, such as oystercatchers, little bitterns, spoonbills and little terns.
In this area, you can encounter some aquatic birds that live here all year round, including common redshanks, pied avocets, Eurasian stone curlews, black-winged stilts and Kentish plovers. Explore the Ria Formosa and its uniquely beautiful scenery, while discovering its rich fauna and flora.
